Braies The town belongs to the Nature Park Fanes - Senes and Braies. The name is attested for the first time between 965 and 973 as Pragas, between 1085 and 1097 and in 1298 as PRAGES as Prags and appears to be pre-Roman origin, perhaps connected to the Celtic word * bracu ("Marsh") or * barga ("hut"). At an altitude of 1469 meters, is located on Lake Braies ( Pragser Wildsee ) that lies at the foot of the cliff Seekofel ( ted. Seekofel, lad. Sass dla Porta m. 2810). Around the lake can be accomplished only by foot or by rowboat.
