The oldest traces of man in Dolomite Ladin-date from the Mesolithic ( from 10,000 to 5,000 years ago during the Mesolithic period ended the last ice age and the consequent dissolution Glacier ). The first traces of agriculture, and then an organization of life based on permanent settlements, dating to the period between 850 BC. and the arrival of the Romans in 15 BC The
"viles" are considered the most ancient forms of settlement. These "village community" probably represents the earliest forms of organization of the settlers in this valley.
Between St. Louis and the Val Badia, height of Longega, picoline or Pederoa can meet the Liberal Party of Marebbe Longiarù and Val, a landscape mountain farmer very specific: the slopes are covered with numerous "viles", surrounded by meadows and fields, which sometimes lead to steep and narrow streets.
These settlements have closed their origin on the one hand the need for security and a sense of belonging to aprte of population and the other the need to use sparingly the little available land suitable for agriculture.
The typical architecture of the farmhouses in the Val Badia consists mostly of a single storey brick and a wooden floor leaning. The
"viles" may include up to ten residential units to farmers, barns and stables of wood and stone, built side by side.
